Mara Gómez has become the first transgender professional footballer in Argentina. Making her debut for Villa San Carlos in Argentina’s women’s league. Despite her debut ending in a 7-1 defeat, Gómez described the game as ‘a social evolution, in conquering rights and spaces’. The 23-year-old added that ‘today I get to say, personally, I get to accomplish a dream. Was the path hard? Yes.’
